Orfeo was born in the Villanova region of Vodacce. His parents were murdered when he was young. He was left with only a knife belonging to his mother and a strange brand on his back. Eventually, he was taken in by an old Swordsman living alone outside of civilization. Seeing his nature to fight, the Swordsman, calling himself Francesco di Mazo, took him in to train him. The man was a vicious and unrelenting master. He operated on the notion that every man needed to know how to use a blade, no matter his heritage. It was a matter of survival.

After years of intense training, the group who killed his parents caught up with him. His master stepped between Orfeo and the men. Demanding Orfeo to run, di Mazo began to fight the men. Orfeo escaped the battle, not knowing the outcome of the fight. He ran until he came to a small merchant village on the shore. There, he stowed away on a ship. The next steps he took on land, was on the soil of Avalon.

With no money or contacts, Orfeo survived on theft and scavenging. He would go to the most crowded market he could find and slip in between people. It was on one such occasion that he was caught. The man grabbed his hand and pulled him to the side. The man, named Karn, was amused by Orfeo, decided to show him some tips.

The two became friends over the next few months. Karn worked as a blacksmith and would take Orfeo as an apprenticeship with him. After gaining his trust, Karn revealed to Orfeo that he worked directly for the Queen, carrying out missions in secret. Orfeo began to back up Karn on surveillance missions, learning the finer points of subtlety.

After years of working with Karn, Orfeo began to have horrifying dreams of his past. He saw his parents’ murder, blood on his hands. Every night, he would awaken in a cold sweat. He prayed at the Church of Avalon, but his dreams just got worse. He soon realized that he must make a journey back to Vodacce to discover the secrets of his past. Bidding Karn farewell, Orfeo left Avalon and sailed across the sea to Montaigne. Traveling south, he crossed the river into Castille, and made his way west to Vodacce. It was here, in Vodacce, that he received a mysterious black letter. Little did he know, that this letter would be the catalyst leading to unimaginable revelations of his past.
